Superman Returns

TRAILERS and CLIPS: http://movies.yahoo.com/shop?d=hv&id...024&cf=trailer

Superman's never been my favorite superhero (I've always, for one reason or another, been more intriuged by the edgier, borderline psychotic Batman and last year's Batman Begins is, by far, my favorite superhero film), but this film, from the talented director of X-Men, X2: X-Men United, and The Usual Suspects, seems great (and the reviews, which can be read here: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/superman_returns/, suggest as much). At the very least, it should be an entertaining summer special effects extravaganza with a great performance by Kevin Spacey as the evil Lex Luthor.

There's a special screening of this at 2:00pm (on June 25th, not the 18th - :smackforehead:) at the Base theatre. I'll be going with a few friends and write up a small review to tell everyone how it is upon return. :-)

Here's a sampling of Superman Return's critical acclaim...

"Next to [director Bryan] Singer's champagne, most recent superhero adventure movies are barely sparkling cider."
-- David Ansen, NEWSWEEK

"Sure to rate with aficionados alongside Spider-Man 2 and, for many, Batman Begins on the short list of best superhero spectaculars."
-- Todd McCarthy, VARIETY

"Retaining the spirit of the comic strip, Superman Returns delivers a larger-than-life hero, a sardonic villain, splashy special effects, and an emotional heart that reinforces the Man of Steel's vulnerability."
-- Urban Cinefile Critics, URBAN CINEFILE

"Holy Caesar's Ghost! They've done it! - "Superman Returns" is super-exciting, super-fun, and super-bly performed! This is the only superhero film you need to see this year!"
-- Clint Morris, MOVIEHOLE

"This is everything it should be. And if it doesn't work for you, I can't imagine what would."
-- Luke Y. Thompson, LYTRULES.COM

"The best Hollywood movies always knew how to sneak a beguiling subtext into a crowd-pleasing story. Superman Returns is in that grand tradition. That's why it's beyond Super. It's superb."
-- Richard Corliss, TIME MAGAZINE

"Is Superman Gay? Is his "package" too big? Will his shorts be digitally retouched? These are the questions currently surrounding the production of Superman Returns."

"According to the British tabloid The Sun, Warner Bros. is concerned with the size of actor Brandon Routh's cod-piece in the new Superman film. An insider said last night: “It’s a major issue for the studio. Brandon is extremely well endowed and they don’t want it up on the big screen. We may be forced to erase his package with digital effects.”

No one ever accused Bruce Wayne of being light in the loafers! Clark Kent, on the other hand, does sound like a gay porn star..

Don't get me wrong, I think the movie will be wonderful. I think superman is a good hero, and I'm definitely going to see this before I go see a blonde James Bond, but i just think he's a little... fancy... yeah.
