In Her Shoes

2005 flick about the love/hate relationship of two disparate sisters. A story about sibling rivalry and bonding did not initially have much interest for me, but this is a good example of how a well made film can go beyond its subject matter.
Cameron Diaz and Toni Collette have wonderful moments as the star-crossed sisters. Their feelings as genuine as they are never seem to find a common ground until Shirley MacLaine makes her entrance. I must confess I was very moved by her, by her performance.
I happen to be a former boozing, unemployable, rifling through your underwear drawer for spare change-type little sister. I never went after one of my sister boyfriends, but this movie nailed the truelove bond between my own big sister (1 of 3) & me. I had an urge to call and tell her I'm "carrying around her heart in my heart".
Check it out!
Curtis Hanson, a director who always gets the best out of the actors, directs the movie. He’s most famous for directing L.A. Confidential, Wonder Boys and 8 Mile.

I just rented that movie for lack of anything else to watch, I have not watched it yet but plan to do so this evening. Thanks for the heads up

I liked the movie, but thought the book was much better. Not surprising though.

She's got a new book out. I enjoy her writing.

I do too. Have you ever read "Little Earthquakes"? That's the first of hers I read, it was a good one.

Yes. I liked that also. I should have bought the new book, but I was distracted. It's at Target for $12 or so.

Read Good in Bed, by far her best book. I'm hoping they will make it into a movie.

My sister has that book and said she was going to send over to me. I will have to give a look. I am watching the movie tonight. Can't wait after reading all the good posts on it.

Decent movie. It was overlong, in my opinion, but was well-made and interesting. Toni Collette gave a GREAT performance and was far better than 'star' Cameron Diaz.
