Thumbs up Flyboys

Watch the trailer...

Very entertaining WWI action film. James Franco (who, despite having a prolific year with Annapolis, Tristan + Isolde, and now this, is still best known for playing the webslinger's hard-edged best friend in the Spider-Man film franchise) plays a young American rancher who, to escape criminal charges, joins the French Air Force and becomes a fighter pilot for the Lafayette Escadrille.

Franco doesn't have considerable range as an actor, but his James Dean-esque intensity almost compensates in full. The supporting actors, including Martin Henderson and Jean Reno, are good in their roles as well. The real star, however, is the action. The epic aerial combat sequences are rendered with dazzling computer-generated imagery and will have you on the edge of your seat. I also enjoyed the understated romance which develops between Franco's character and an introverted French beauty.

Overall, this is not going to win an Academy Award, but it is an entertaining and thrilling two-and-a-half-hour sky-set thriller. Recommended.

I wanna see it. But I hope they dont overdo the loveydovey scenes like they did in Pearl Harbor.

They don't. Don't get me wrong, there definitely is a romance element, but the focus is squarely on the aerial dogfights. Everything else is supporting.

I agree. The loveydovey stuff ruined Pearl Harbor for me.
