You stated yourself that the government does not need this new all encompassing database to track what an individual does. So, why pass this into law? Sounds like Tom Daschle, - lets pass a law we don't need so we can tell people we're doing something. Make sense to you, passing a law that says the government can do things it already can do? Lets pass a law that lets police write speading tickets even though they can already write speading tickets. Makes as much sense. It's just going to build a database on innocent citizens. The argument that if one is doing nothing wrong then one has nothing to worry about doesn't float. Where in the constitution does it say the government gets to monitor and record your legal personal affairs?
I think thats neither necessary nor wise. Just what do you not understand that giving up freedom and the right to privacy is giving it up forever? What do you do when someone does abuse this database? Pass a new law saying they can't abuse the information in the database? Geez!

The best part is that we will need a department to run this tracking system and database, new employees for this department, new computer equipment, new phones, new furniture, new people to do the health insurance, do the payroll, replace the light bulbs, clean the floors, electric bill, water bill for the toilets,...
We have to pay for it somehow. Best argument I have against it.

We pay for a lot of things that harm us, why not pay for something that might be useful? Looking at it from the republican side, I would say you just created a lot of new jobs which is good

I did look at it from the Republican side. Big govvernment leads to deficit or higher taxes, not economic growth. We could argue that all day, but I just don't see a whole department dedicated to gathering information on everyone when the FBI can get any info it wants on particular suspects. It's almost assuming we're all guilty unless we have a database entry that shows we're not.
