I kind of figured it would be pretty fast. The child was last seen less than 1/2 hour ago and the police saturated the area very fast and were coordinating a plan before they even got there.

Not knocking the police force, but are they usually that quick to respond for a lost child? Good on 'em, if so. Glad they found him.

I am of the impression the police always respond to a lost child as fast as they can. Unfortunately, in this area things, are quite often busy so the Duty Officer has Dispatch start pulling officers off if there are other things going on. But I have showed up in my neighborhood to help with searching for lost children and I am of the impression that if allowed, every officer on duty would 'Like' to assist on the search. If it goes on long enough I suspect Off Duty officers would start showing up as well. Unfortunately it is not their call. The Duty officer has to divide his manpower up as best he can given the priority of whatever is ongoing at that time. Plus they always attempt to still leave an officer or two avaible in various areas of the county take respond to incidents as they occur.

And let's not forget those Fire Fighters. The Police always show up on scene, get information and evaluate the seriousness of the situation. If it's getting dark, storm coming etc. They can and will call the FD in as well.
