DeGeneres in doghouse

"Ellen DeGeneres is in the doghouse with a pet rescue agency after giving a pooch away to her hairdresser because it didn't get along with her cats.

The talk show hostess and her partner Portia de Rossi adopted Iggy, a Brussels Griffon mix, on Sept. 20. But when things didn't work out, DeGeneres gave the dog to her hairdresser."

I will probably never adopt a pet because of nonsense like this.

Sugar Gliders are high maintenance. Please do not purchase/adopt before researching. They require a specialized diet, lots of your time, lots of room, and vet bills can be high. They can live to 15+ years.

I am ot at all a fan of DeGeneres but I think she was just trying to find a good home for the dog....Granted, she didn't read the contract but it's kind of sad for the little girls that have become attached to the dog...

Agreed.

Not all rescues are like this, but enough of them are that I wouldn't want to deal with their silliness. They can keep their animals for all I care - breeders don't give you such a hard time.

Won't they even consider letting the hairdresser's family keep the dog? Yeah, Ellen made a mistake and violated the contract, but the last time I checked the goal of rescues were to find the animal a good home! I don't see why they're so damn inflexible in a situation where the animal is being treated well.

This may be just a case of bureaucracy vs common sense.

Too bad agencies do not act so swiftly when it's children at risk.

A friend of mine adopted a dog that didn't work out, because of new babies in the house - the dog didn't like and was agressive, she returned the dog as contracted. They pretty much made her feel like she was an evil irresponsible person. She'll never adopt a rescue again.

The policies should be changed to accomodate those who are able to find alternate homes for the animals, it could be stipulated that the new owners would be subject to inspection just as the first individual was. The object is to find a good home for the animal, not make the owners feel like idiots!!

Where did they adopt from (PM me if you don't want to say)? There needs to be a sense of realism in animal adoptions- sometimes the pets are just incompatible with others animals and it is often indeterminable. I can understand the disappointment and frustration on the part of the rescue agency, but yeah, they definitely need a change of policy!
