If they voted against other useless garbage, I'd agree with you. But these same nine voted for equally useless garbage like:

Recognizing the 100th anniversary year of the founding of the Port of Los Angeles

Expressing sympathy and pledging to support the victims of the devastating flooding in southern Mexico

The great hall of the Capitol Visitor Center shall be known and designated as the Emancipation Hall

Recognizing the close relationship between the United States and the Republic of San Marino.

And many, many more.

This wasn't a stand against worthless garbage, it was a stand against recognizing Christmas and Christianity.

Some of those sound like a waste of time, as well. Though I do understand that some of these might be necessary for diplomacy's sake. And the one about the Capitol Visitor Center may be procedurally required, as many of these types of things are.

Recognizing Christmas (or any other holiday) as "officially important" is a waste of time. Just because the US "officially" loves Christmas doesn't make it any more or less important than it already was. It's importance and value is determined by each individual. No government resolution is going to change anybody's view about it...one way or the other.

It's not as if these resolutions are creating the holiday itself. These holidays existed (and were observed) long before our wonderful lawmakers declared them officially "neat-o".
