| Guns: Keep it in your car............... Some worried by law that allows drivers to have weapon " The state's new castle law has grabbed the spotlight. But some say a lesser-known gun law, which also took effect in September, could have greater consequences. The law allows Texans to carry guns in their cars, even without a concealed handgun license. As long you meet the law's other requirements – such as not being a gang member, refraining from criminal acts and keeping the gun out of sight – you can pack heat in your glove box. "Castle is just kind of yawn," said Alice Tripp, legislative director for the Texas State Rifle Association. Texans have always enjoyed robust rights of self-defense. But the gun carrying law "is dramatic," she said. | Wish we had that law in MD. In Prince George's county in the past three years there has been between 0.5 and 1.0 carjacking for every 1,000 people. I am not a statiscian, but it seems if you live in PG county you can have about a one in 1,000 chance of getting brutally dragged out of your car every year and either beat, shot, stabbed, raped or just robbed of your means to get to work to make a living. It is about time Maryland stopped having it a law that the citizens must be defensless victims to violent crime. We must pass HB 2 in the General Assembly.

| Despite leading the country with executions, and vigilante gun laws, Texas is still in the top 20% of all states when it comes to violent crime. So my theory is that violence, and anything that assists violence, begets more violence. Notice that most of the Blue states are doing much better than the Red states when it comes to violent crimes... http://www.disastercenter.com/crime/...e_Ranking.html Quote:

Interstingly enough look at the most violent and ranked number one compared to numbers 50 and 51 being the least violent. The place with the most restrictive gun laws in the country, District of Colombia, is number one for violent crime, but Maine which is shall issue and Vermont which is unrestricted carry and has the least restrictive, most liberal gun laws in the country are ranked numbers 50 and 51 being the most safest in the country.

| More of those annoying facts: Interview with John Lott, author of More Guns, Less Crime " We know that the type of person who obtains a permit is extremely law-abiding and possibly they are extremely careful in how they take care of their guns. The total number of accidental gun deaths each year is about 1,300 and each year such accidents take the lives of 200 children 14 years of age and under. However, these regrettable numbers of lives lost need to be put into some perspective with the other risks children face. Despite over 200 million guns owned by between 76 to 85 million people, the children killed is much smaller than the number lost through bicycle accidents, drowning, and fires. Children are 14.5 times more likely to die from car accidents than from accidents involving guns." Ted Kennedy's car has killed more people than my firearms. Ed

"The analysis is based on data for all 3,054 counties in the United States during 18 years from 1977 to 1994." Good call, the data is a bit dated but still valid. Ed

| It is never a waste of time educating the public about the fallacies of restrictive gun control and in this respect Forrestal is helping the RKBA cause by providing yet another opportunity to do so.
