Man Fatally Hurt Trying to Stop Thieves

Man Fatally Hurt Trying to Stop Thieves
Quote:
CRESTWOOD, Mo. — Surveillance video from a Starbucks in a St. Louis suburb captures the moments before Roger Kreutz went from hero to tragic victim.

He stands in line behind a young man and woman at the coffee shop, where he's a regular customer. The young man fiddles with items on the counter while she orders a coffee, pays and heads out the door. The young man swipes the tip jar, and Kreutz, in the spur of the moment, gives chase.

What happened next is not caught on tape. Police say the two suspects, with the young man behind the wheel of a 1990s white Ford Taurus, ran over the Good Samaritan in the parking lot.

..... <snip>

It's believed there was about $5 in the tip jar.

that is most unfortunate .... run over for $ 5

Ok, there are some things worth fighting over, a tip jar at Starbucks no less rates pretty much at the bottom of the list of things I would get involved with.

I feel sorry for the guy, he was just trying to be a stand up citizen.

...not thinking. It is great to give chase, get a tag #, better description, whatever, but, at his age, if you don't have them by the time they get in the car you do NOT put yourself in danger for MONEY. You put yourself in danger for life or death situations or to help someone who really needs it.

Pop says there is right and there is dead right.

Having said that, both those little bastards should be put to death for manslaughter.

...well I don't know either of those fellows, he and Big Fatty, but I am presuming the situation was a far cry from a 50 some odd year old putting himself at risk of getting run over in a parking lot.

I'm think more akin to a bird flying headlong into a brick wall.

The goal is to control your reactions and not be so caught up that you get run over in a parking lot for $5.
