Her 15-year-old sister, who works with her, can't read, either. Adriana had an 8-year-old brother, too, until he was crushed to death by a tractor while working in a tomato field last year.

About 300,000 youngsters such as Adriana work illegally in Mexico's fields, the U.N. Children's Fund says, making child labor a major link in the chain that increasingly supplies American dinner tables."

I guess that's what happens when you send your willing workers illegally out of the country.

It also puts food on their tables, just like sweat shops in any number of countries, or families that put their entire families to work in the fields.

Of course. All their men are here picking lettuce. If the kids want to eat, they have to work for it.

There is only one solution that could possibly fix this injustice. We must allow all of these mexicans to return to their homeland to pick lettuce for their own families.
