Portland is not a massive city. This loss really hurts.
It sounds like he was really a fine officer.
Let's face it, accidents do happen...I just don't put this one down as carelessness: He knew his stuff.

I'll venture a guess that with a loaded utility belt,...all it takes is a small cord, base of a penlight, or snap-cover to hit the trigger.
He will be missed.

I'll never forget the Duty sgt from Hill Street Blues:
"Hey HEY,....Let's be careful out there!."
