If he wants to bypass an intrusive overstepping piece of equipment in his car, i would think the forum would be a good place to voice his opinion.

he didn't go to the alcoholics anonymous forums on “how to drive drunk and get away with it” and post this
That pretty much sums it up.

You do realize that Yle said he would bypass it "IF" it were installed and IF it were to be installed it would bypass it because it would not prevent anyone from actually driving drunk in addition to being annoying in the least to have to puff into a tube periodically while driving down the road to prove the constitutionally prohibited "presumption of guilt" to be wrong?

there is no presumption of guilt, its a safety interlock. in case you didn't know, drunk driving is already against the law. with this system, If you are drunk your car wont start, if you are not drunk, you drive.

I can't see why anyone who doesn't drink and drive would care. especially since this pie in the sky idea will never fly.

Well why are you arguing it so hard then? How did you leap to the conclusion that Yle was an alcoholic because he said he would bypass it because he doesn't like the intrusion?

Of course there is a presumption of guilt, why else would they put it in to prevent the car from starting or running? By blowing into the machine you are "providing evidence" you are not drunk. In order to prove you are "not drunk" the assumption you "are drunk" must exist.

Because they have to pay for it. Do you think the car manufacture is going to install this device for free. A lot of people don;t drink at all. Why should they have to pay for a device like this.

Would the device be adjustable? Different states have different limits. What if you buy a car in a different state. Will you then have to pay to have it recalibrated.

Not to mention the huge loss of revenue from DUI tickets.

I can't see why anyone who doesn't shoot heroin would object to a urinalysis before driving either.

Read post #1 this thread is about a MANDATORY requirement to put these on ALL cars

Having had to drive a breathalyzer equipped car once, I can tell you it interferes a LOT. Luckily, I had a passenger that could keep the car going by blowing in the device. Based on my experience, I think it would be dangerous to drive a manual transmission car with a breathalyzer in heavy traffic.

Exactly. I'm pizzed because if I buy a new car, I now have to buy a tire pressure sensor system.
