I'm a big fan of Blackwater, and mercenaries in general. They don't have to play by the bull#### rules that bind our military men and women, and their bosses aren't trying to get re-elected. I think hiring Blackwater is one of Bush's smarter moves.

Using contractors in military positions is the equivalent of congress appointing
yet another committee to 'study' a problem, conveniently kicking the tough decisions down the road and it is akin to payroll withholding; better to take money through the back door that to face the tough choices of raising taxes or not.

Contractors are a way for Bush to cop out instead of being a leader. He HAD to start increasing the number of active duty. He did not. Military action requires, in my view, the accountability and the legitimacy of being a US government activity. A contractor becomes a whipping boy; something goes wrong? Oh, they don't work for us!

Sorry. Your BDS is clouding your vision. It was the Clinton Peace Dividend in the '90s that downsized the military to such an extent, private security forces became necessary. That's why they are in the force structure, not Bush's strategic short vision.

...political courage and the OBVIOUS would have been nice; add troops. Give everybody a raise, especially the shooters who get pushed out after 10 years and are stuck with job skills the private sector doesn't want. Enter contractors.
