Of course, none of that will matter and we the tax payers will pay dearly for this. Like Bre already mentioned, the cost will be vastly greater.
He supposedly had a medical exam after the arrest and before being put in his cell. That leads me to believe that the arrest is not the cause of his injuries.

Didn't the autopsy say there were broken bones in the neck? I can't imagine a broken Hyoid bone not hurting enough to be noted by a doctor.

I think it's pretty evident that this happened in his cell.

As for his family and the $$$ - yes he was a thug, and he deserved the death penalty. But.... he did not deserve to die until he had been tried and convicted.

This is a real, true violation of his civil rights. Not because of his race (everyone thinks civil rights means race) but because he was deprived of due process. He was deprived of his right to defend himself, face his accusers, and be judged by a jury of his peers.

His family should not benefit from his crimes. But they will. Unless PG county can find a way to prove that this was somehow self inflicted, the family is going to collect millions.

Guess where that money is going to come from? PG sure doesn't have a surplus. They'll have to pay, that will leave a hole in their budget, and the state will have to bail them out. We get to pay. Yipee.

I was just reading an updated article posted just before 11 p.m. last night and they have ruled this offender's death a homicide.

Death of Pr. George's Co. inmate ruled a homicide

And it is obvious I didn't know that in my first response, last article I read yesterday afternoon didn't say that. I really didn't expect the medical examiner to release an opinion this soon.

The coroner's ruling was discussed earlier in this thread. There was a rather lengthy press conference related to the ruling and investigation last night at 9. The press conference was fairly interesting.

Technician: Any broken bones?

Kid: No

Kid: No

Technician: He's clean.

Thank you for making me feel like a dip shiat. I completely missed your updated post on this yesterday.

Lenny,

I know the scenario you are trying to say could have happened here but the coroner wouldn't have ruled it a homicide had that been remotely possible. Wouldn't you agree?

Homicide means he was killed. The Coroner did not rule it murder, however. Big difference that many don't understand.

I understand that there is a difference between police & corrections, but the two are very closely related. And I'd venture to guess that in the eyes of the public, they are one and the same. If a corrections officer does something stupid, it's going to make the police look bad, too.

As some other folks already said, I don't feel too much pity for the deceased criminal, but this is still a very bad thing. It's not going to do good for anybody.
