the police would have been put on leave while it was determined if they should have shot him or not.

No fuss, no fuss. Proper training and, more importantly, a level headed mindset.

Look at the video; He obviously climbed up on the front end loader (it is NOT a bulldozer!) as he was obviously trying to get the guy to stop peacefully. Maybe something was wrong? Seizure? Heart attack? Who knows. Point being his first response was NOT opening fire. He did not shoot until the driver started moving again and then only after he had crushed another vehicle.

He acted responsibly and effectively as the situation called for amidst a sea of people of varying reactions of shock and horror and anger and fear and in the middle of a chaotic seen of damage and danger.

Also of note was how matter of fact he was when the shooting was done. He stepped aside to allow the EMT to get to work and got out of the way.

Pretty damn impressive.

...given that the thing was moving and that the kid seemed rather in control, ie, well trained, that he shot COM, repeatedly, until the desired effect was reach; CNS hit. I counted four. That's pretty damn good. Plus, head shots with a pistol round are dangerous; ricochets.

Hollywood has long since trained us that a .22 kills people instantly, every time, regardless of where it hits.

Yeah the clueless masses maybe, although the warning on a box of .22 cartridges does say dangerous 1.5 miles ....
