Dr. Richard Schlegel: This is a great question. The reason for recommending the age limit is that this is the time at which most women will be exposed to the virus. However, women older than 26 can certainly gain benefit from vaccination, especially if they have had limited sexual contact. Women older than 26 have a very good immune system and will respond well to the vaccine.

Oh please....

Unless you are looking at a couple consisting of two virgins both have been exposed to some strain of HPV. You don't need to be screwing the varsity football team to be exposed to it. It's almost as common as well, the common cold. If you are an adult who has had more than 1 sexual partner in your lifetime (and if that partner had more than 1 before you) then more likely than not you have been exposed to some strain of HPV that is otherwise not causing you any trouble.

So even if you are responsible, you can contract HPV. While I was lucky and no longer have HPV, it was an extremely difficult time for me, very scary experience. I'll make sure my children receive the vaccine.

Dr. Richard Schlegel: Unfortunately, condoms are not particularly effective in preventing the transmission of HPV. The virus is found in genital cells not covered by the condom.

HPV is contracted thru the skin, unlike STD's that are contracted thru bodily fluid....If you come in contact with someone that has it, you stand a good chance of getting it if you have "intimate contact" with them....this is not just sex

Your body will either fight it or not....If it does, then you will probably never know that you have had it....If it doesn't, you stand a good chance of getting certain types of cervical cancer....Men that have it, don't know it(there is no test for them yet)

IMO....I won't have my daughter get this shot because of the unanswered questions of the long term side effects
