That's no lie, when overseas during our port briefings with local law enforcement they requested our sailors not give money to the woman with babies in their laps because 99.8% were borrowed babies and with the kids they were able to make 5x more money than an average street beggar in the tourist sections of town!!! Oh and the real mother gets a cut also!!! ![]() Actually if I were store security, I would profile more the people entering the store who look like they have a means of removing items undetected (i.e. lots of kids, baby bags, strollers). It just makes sense and even though there may be more shoplifters who come in empty handed, the people stealing in bulk making thousands bring strollers! Sh!ts big business and was directly attributed to the thousands of new clothing items with tags that are being sold at fire-sale prices on eBay. 20/20 or 60 minutes (forgot which one) did a piece on it and I was amazed to see this Yuppie looking well dressed white female in an upscale men's store with a baby stroller and on surveillance tape they show this biatch with 1 swipe, she grabs like 20 pairs of dress slacks valued at $110-150 a piece and tight fold it into a baby carriage. Then they show these same types of clothing being sold on eBay for about 1-2/3rds cheaper!!!

| I know it hits the retailer just as hard regardless of what product is being lifted but,, when it comes to someone stealing food, I tend to lean to the side of leniency.

| That's pretty much what I think too. Of course, it depends on what they were lifting. It was chips, cupcakes, and junk food, throw the book at them. If it was milk, cereal, and other staples, sure they should pay, but try to get them some assistance too.

Having said that, I'm not saying they should do hard time for stealing some milk and cookies. If it's a first offense, I'd say let them go with a warning. I don't understand why they'd do this in front of the kids. Great example being set once again. ![]() Last edited by CalvertNewbie : 07-09-2008 at 04:23 PM. | |

| They are essentially stealing from you!!! The prices at the stores are adjusted for "loss by theft". The more they lose to thieves (and they are regardless of the reason) the more we pay. For a couple to steal to feed, the public assistance they are provided must go to some other purpose. If they aren't receiving assistance then they haven't applied or were deemed not needy enough. No sympathy here. Take the kids from them and incarcerate them. When the can prove there worth to the kids and society, they can have the kids back. If that never happens then the kids are better off in foster care. |

| Being down and out is no excuse. If they aren't working they will qualify for food stamps. No reason to steal food at all, there's help out there. |
