10 YO girl missing. Spring Ridge

Police Units are searching for a 10 YO girl that went off into the woods.

Tippett Rd. I believe there are actually two girls. Been gone about 2 hours now. Went off into the woods looking for snakes.

I have just caught bits and pieces of this as I have been busy. Will try to keep an ear on it.

At police request Fire Board have just dispatched for Fire/EMS units to respond for the search party.

1:25 Trooper 7 on the way. All units staging at Spring Ridge Middle School.

Heard earlier that the parents were unable to find the her. I am not sure but I heard once that were two girls.

1:31 Parent(s) apparently helping in the search. Someone just called the grandmother advising they had broken their shoe and twisted their ankle. Someone now needs to go into the woods and bring her out.

1:33 Dispatched just put at descriptors for "2" girls. Both approx 10 YO.

Girl #1 Strawberry Blond Hair, Brown eyes, Blue Bathing Suit

Girl #2 Black Hair, Brown eyes, Black bathing suit.

Neighbors houses have been checked. Negative results. Addition information leads them to believe their is a White dog with black spots that may be following them. Units on the scene are advising THICK brush, also, swampy area with lots of waterline.

1:38 TROOPER 7 now up, on the way to assist in the search.

1:42 Command is asking about possibly getting a boat out to seach the beach. Tide is coming in. Need them about 20 yards along the beach.

1:43 The grandmother is apparently on the phone with the mother who apparently has a visual on one of the children at this time.

1:44 Area of interest right now is Far Cry Road. Some house in the area. The mother does have the children. Mother advises the children advise they were picked up by a MALE and dropped off into the woods.

1:46 Children have been found. Dispatch advising nobody can leave because another situation has arrised. They may end up looking for this unknown male if the little girls' story is true. If this turns into an investigation I will likely not be posting too much more about this.

1:50 A Perimeter is being setup. Search underway for this supposed male. Trooper 7 is now looking for this male.

1:55 Trooper 7 has eyes on a Black Male with a Black T-Shirt on which does fit the description of the supposed suspect.

1:58 An officer is out with the children now.

Now the story appears to be getting a little FUZZY regarding the black male. Unsure exactly of what the story is on him but it 'seems' theat he threatened the girl in some fashion. I am now unsure if the girls had actually gotten into a vehicle with him or went anywhere with him.

There is some discussion now about the possibility of the children having fabricated the story of the male involvement. All search efforts are halted pending further. (I suspected this from the get go. They were only gone for two hours. Black Male, black T-shirt, Black pants on a hot summer day. Not much imagination.)

2:18 The story about the male has been confirmed as having been fabricated by the young girls. All units now returning to service.

Same thing that's always asked. Where are the parents and why did they let two 10 year olds go into the woods to look for snakes? Maybe I'm wrong for asking this, but sheesh, they've been gone for 2 hours.

hmmmm. When I was 10 my friend, her little brother and I packed a lunch and were gone for about 8 hours at at time in the woods, looking for snakes, frogs, minnows, crayfish, jewel weed, swimming, climbing trees, skippin rocks, chasing cows, goats or horses, laying out on the rocks, jumping mud puddles, stick wars.... you name it. We came home muddy, itchy, bitten and bloody and we called it fun.

Me too, but we also planned accordingly.

These little chickies chose to go wearing bathing suits and apparently flimsy shoes rather than walking shoes... not so smart.

I belive it was possibly the mother whose shoe broke and twisted her ankle. UNSURE THOUGH

Yes...at 10 and younger we were told to go outside in the morning, come home for lunch and back out we went...just had to be home before dark. We played at the pond, in the woods, built our own forts, played in the tobacco fields....rode our bikes everywhere. I also let my kids go as long as they were in groups of two or more. They are 17 and the twins are 14.
