He had NO problem telling the commanding officer what was on his mind.

funny actually.

I got an outstanding recommendation for LDO from this really old guy (or so I thought initially). Marched into the board room, saluted, looked at this Captain. One eye was looking at me, the other was looking sideways. Then I looked at his ribbons and he had that little blue one with the stars at the top. Scared the crap outta me. He got tore up in 'Nam and had to fight to stay in the Navy. Later I ran into him, he looked at my shoulder boards and asked "What took you so long?" He works Veterans Affairs for some New England state now.

18 1/2 years enlisted Ed, far more than as commissioned. Lost pay when I made Warrant.

I took an early-out after 17, quit before they fired me! Seems the Cold War was over and they didn't need any Air ASW types. My how times have changed.

More like protecting the stream of cannon fodder. If peeps saw the reality of war they might be disinclined to participate or send their kids off.

The vast majority of our service men are old enough that they did not need mommy and daddy's permission to sign up and those that volunteer are patriots and many of them re-enlist after seeing firsthand the carnage that war can bring.

The NY Times and other liberal rags have no desire to put these pictures in their papers out of a need to report news . They do it to make a political statement. Just like you are trying to do here on this forum. Well as a retired Navy man I say this... Using the death of brave Americans as a political statement is cowardice and you and the NY Times should be ashamed of yourselves.

It's been my experience that service members don't discourage their children from voluntarily joining, they're just better informed about the risks and benefits. Many service members have a family history of service to their country, not service from their country.

Protecting the stream of cannon fodder are D.C. gun laws!

It's been that way since WWII.
It's done out of respect for the brave men and women that have sacrificed their lives so azzholes like you can hide in your parents basement.
Sorry it the NY Times' circulation is down, but wanting to make a buck by exploiting the death of American servicemen is disguating

How many people do you see bring cameras to funerals, etc?

Not many is it?

Remember the big fight the Ernhardt's had to keep Dale's autopsy pictures from being published? What was that for so that parents would still let their kids be race car drivers?

Some people are just jackasses.
