Fish Die-Off after Lake Cleaning

TACOMA, Wash. -- Hundreds of fish are turning up dead in Wapato Lake after chemicals to clean the lake were used Friday.

Chemicals were released in the lake Friday to treat the build-up of phosphorous over the years, said Larry Dahl, park commissioner for Metro Parks Tacoma.

Dahl said the lake was contaminated and officials were looking to make the lake useable to the public.

Although the lake is much clearer, dead fish can now be seen all over the lake.

“We’re not sure what has happened. This isn’t what was supposed to happen,” Dahl said.

change to a fishes environment needs to be slow so they can acclimate (sp)

Obviously, whatever chemical they used was too much too fast.

Well, I'm not a scientist, but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn last night.

by the way on an off note, I do make my bed before I leave a hotel room, dont know why, just do it. then think everytime, why the hell did I do that>?

They should strip the bed anyway so why make it. I do leave a tip when I use a motel. Dont have to ,but I think its a nice gesture.
