Judge Halverson

I have to admit that when I first saw Judge Halverson my first reaction was to think how incredibly disgusting. Then I realized that I was an adult and decided to look past her obesity and into her personality/behavior. We shouldn't be judging her on her looks, we all have our flaws. More importantly we shouldn't be judging. We are adults. It was disheartning to not find one comment on here that didn't make fun of her weight....I would have expected that from children.
I watched her hearing for quite awile and was appalled by her behavior. She was very childish, sarcastic and defensive, it was apparent that she felt intitled and abused her power of authority and for that reason alone she should be removed.
I'm hoping to hear more coments on her behavior in the court room hearing and less on her appearance.

You're joking, am I correct?!?! Or, maybe I missed the sarcasm smilie?

The MOST dominant characteristic, concerning this woman, is her SIZE!

What part of the story did you not understand? The issue, is that clearly, she stands accused of abusing her judicial powers, in a personal sense, where it appears she was demanding worship - from near or far, from her baliff, for one. That is for the court to decide. However, most, if not all the responders to this thread were amazed, maybe appalled, that this beast has been allowed to squat on the bench for this long a time.

Now, I see this is your first post on these forums, and you are free to express whatever opinion you wish to - just as well as the rest of us, who commented on this story are. Obviously that little tidbit must have escaped your mental grasp. Be that as it may...

I am wondering if your condition is similar to hers? Is that why you became upset with all the bashing over obesity? If not, sit back and enjoy the comedy, for it is rampant on these forums!

Finally, in your second statement, you say that you realized you were an adult; is this the first instance that this has occured to you? Of course, your version as to what characterizes an adult, and what the rest of us recognize, may be totally at odds with each other.

Oh, and, have a nice day!

Woe. I can't watch the vids at work. =[ I've heard of stuff like this, judges making their clerks clean their offices. District judges, too. Imagine coming out of law school, getting a job, and your first task? "Massage my back!" *shudder* I can't open the link to the vid, is she being removed from her position or just suspended?

Actually she only served for four months, before being suspended. She definately abused her powers and that should be what people disguss. I just found it sad that we as a society put more emphasis on things like appearance and not character.

It was difficult to find a forum where Judgde Halverson was being discussed. The only one was regarding her weight. I do not find the humor in it, sorry.

Being that this is the internet anyone can claim to be something they are not. I can't relate to her obesity...for I have never been over weight. But I can relate to being judged for my appearance.

As for being an adult, I think most adults would agree that it is not mature to make fun of a persons appearance. I have been guilt of this many of times, I just try to learn from my mistakes and be a better person and parent.

My 14yr old son watched a portion of the show with me, he thought she was gross and I agreed, but I also explained to him that her character is more important than her appearance and for that reason and that reason alone should people be talking.

I'm not naive, I realize that the world is full of people making fun of others...I just think it's sad.

So far, it seems the Commission on Judicial Discipline has ruled that she is a threat to Justice, whatever that means.....? The court is still in session, and testimony is continuing. Apparently she was elected in the fall of 2006, for a 2 yr period.

I can't resist!

I was just perusing the channels, and our local NEWS 4, WRC, is going to feature a segment called "Obesity in America".

Probably, in the next 15 minutes, or so.

Hmm........

Update

" District Judge Elizabeth Halverson's disciplinary hearing was halted Friday after she suffered a hypoglycemic attack and became ill, her attorney said.

Halverson suffered the attack Friday morning after testifying for about an hour. Her attorney, Michael Schwartz, told the seven members of the Nevada Judicial Discipline Commission that she was nauseated but that he expected the hearing could continue after Halverson stabilized her blood sugar level. The commission agreed to take an hour long break.

Halverson, 50, returned from the lunch break looking pale, lethargic and sickly. She told the commissioners that she wanted to continue testifying even though her attorney had advised her to stop.

"I'm better than when I was when the attack happened. I'm not 100 percent," she said.

But Schwartz said Halverson wasn't up to finishing the hearing.

"I don't think she wants to admit, even to herself, that she is under the weather," he said. "

District judge faces hearing before the Judicial Discipline Commission

Embattled District Judge Elizabeth Halverson will be required to undergo a mental health evaluation if she wants to bring up personal medical conditions during an August hearing before the Nevada Judicial Discipline Commission.
Claiming it doesn't want a "trial by ambush," the commission on Wednesday ordered Halverson to submit to an examination by a Reno-based psychiatrist by July 18 if she intends to argue that her mental or physical conditions contributed to her behavior on the bench, according to the commission order.

Halverson has contended that she doesn't have to provide information on medical issues because the federal Americans with Disabilities Act prohibits employers from asking about disabilities, the order says.

The Judicial Discipline Commission pointed out that it isn't her employer.

She's playing games with the court! I googled Crohn's disease, and it appears to be a "chronic bowel malfunction".

She has been suspended, but is still receiving $130,000 per year!
