What The Russians Are Saying

RussiaToday : News : US hampering Russian peace efforts – Putin

The Prime Minister has accused Washington of undermining Russia’s attempts to restore peace in the South Ossetian conflict zone. Vladimir Putin said a decision by the US military to fly 900 Georgian soldiers from Iraq back to Georgia showed America was ‘trying to get in the way’.

Well, we knew it was all George Bush's fault. Just had to wait for Vlad to tell us why.

The Fog Of War: Blackwater?

The South Ossetian government is claiming that the Georgian government employed mercenaries in their attack on the city of Tskhinvali.

But why would NATO want such a small, impoverished country with a track record of more or less continuous political corruption since independence, even since the Rose Revolution supposedly ushered in a new age of democratic accountability back in 2003?"

Russia has no right to attack the Republic of Georgia. South Ossetia is part of Georgia, not Russia and is trying to break away from Georgia. For comparison, it's like California trying to become a separate Country and Mexico getting involve when the US military try to prevent it.

I'm sorry, but you are wrong. South Ossetia is not and has never been a part of Georgia. South Ossetia was an Autonomous Oblast
of the USSR. During the USSR, South Ossetia was directly controlled by the USSR, while Georgia SSR had it's own government which then was controlled by the USSR. When the USSR desolved, Georgia became an independent Republic, while South Ossetia had no official status. Most, if not all, people in South Ossetia are Russian citizens, have Russian passports and use Russian currency.

UN won't do squat. It would take a security resolution and Russia is a permanent
member, all it takes is one veto.

Saakashvili Tries to Allay Sense of Panic in Tbilisi

23:30
• ‘No threat to Tbilisi’ – Saakashvili;
• Russia says it pulled out from Senaki;

President Saakashvili called on the capital city’s population not to panic as there was no threat for Tbilisi “at least till tomorrow.”

“If the capital faces any danger you will know it 12 hours before. It is desirable, if we all stay at home,” he said in a televised address late on August 11.

In a separate statement shortly before, Saakashvili said that the Russian forces had occupied “significant part of Georgia.”
