Poor Sport tosses Olympic Medal in a fit....

Poor little boy had a hissy fit and threw away his Olympic medal!!!
WTF???
He THREW the Bronze on the floor...What a poor loser..and he is!!!
Wrestling is so objective and we all know the Olympics have major issues with they way they score objective events!!!

What a wonderful example he sets for Sweden!!!

Quote:
(CNN) -- Swedish wrestler Ara Abrahamian threw away the bronze medal he won in the Greco-Roman category in disgust in a protest over judging in his semifinal bout.

Abrahamian was beaten in the 84 kg class by eventual gold medal winner Andrea Minguzzi of Italy but was disgusted by the verdict, shouting at the referee before confronting the judges. The Athens silver medal winner had to be restrained by teammates and later went on to win a bronze medal match.

But the row continued at the medal ceremony as he only grudgingly mounted the podium and after receiving his medal made a point of taking it off and leaving it in the center of the competition mat.

Swedish fans in the arena disagreed strongly with the original decision, jeering the judges, while coach Leo Myllari also weighed in.

"It's all politics," he said.

The medal was later returned to the sport's governing body.

Cassius Clay threw his gold medal into the river.

John Kerry threw his medals onto the White House lawn.

Forrest Gump threw his medal of honor (wait, that one doesn't count).

So, one winner, one loser and one make believe.

I'd be interested to know what the 'man on the street' in Sweden thinks of this.

Simple morbid curiosity.

Did you watch the match in question? Do you have any history of individual competition? Any experience in ANY combative sport? Any CONCEPT of what it takes to walk on to a mat or into a ring, by yourself, and face a person who is just as dedicated to destroying his opponent as YOU are?

By your tone, I believe you meant "subjective" but you are correct, wrestling has rules that are OBJECTIVE. As in any sport however, you can do little about a referees bias.

Supposedly a story in which a young Cassius Clay, believing he was something special after winning the gold, came home (Memphis, TN I believe) but was still 'discriminated' against. I don't remember if it was something about service in a diner or something. He got pizzed off, walked to the river and supposedly threw his gold medal into the river in frustration.

That's why he was given a special gold medal when he Parkinson-gait walked the Olympic flame to the torch in the last U.S. olympics (another Bush-is-to-blame) story.

Interesting.

Thanks

This is what Wiki wrote:
Quote:
Ali states (in his 1975 autobiography) that he threw his Olympic gold medal into the Ohio River after being refused service at a 'whites-only' restaurant, and fighting with a white gang. Whether this is true is still debated, although he was given a replacement medal during the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, where he lit the torch to start the games.
