The Fallen Hero Commemoration Act

Bill Would End Ban on Photos of Returning Military Dead

The Department of Defense would be required to grant journalists access to ceremonies honoring fallen military personnel under a bill introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives.

The legislation is significant because it would, for the first time since Vietnam, let photojournalists capture the powerful images of flag-draped caskets arriving on American soil during wartime.

This week the bill won the endorsement of the National Press Photographers Association.

The Fallen Hero Commemoration Act, or H.R. 6662, was introduced July 30 by Rep. Walter B. Jones (R-N.C.), a member of the House Committee on Armed Services.

And what makes you think the DoD would grant access?
They block access now..and that is a violation of the Constitution!!!
The DoD does not want the Dead of the war to be front page... If the public REALLY knew how many were being killed (4100+) and were coming home in boxes..the "Approval" rating for the "war" would drop big time.
Daddy Bush would not be happy......

I for one wold love to see complete freedom of the press and automatic granting of access to the airfields when the cargo planes unload the coffins.
A person has a valid Press Pass...he can go where ever he wants and can shoot what he wants....no "granting of access" ( or waiting for that permission) for a staged military event.

Photographers have pretty much free rein on the war front, why not here?

You two loads are pathetic pieces of shiat.
These soldiers fought and gave their lives so you piles of dog shiat can spew your drivel.

You have obviously forgotten about the 3000+ that died on 9/11.

I'll be out later, lets say we all get together for a beer eh? I'd LOVE to meet you both face to face.

Most Americans know the casualty rate of the war in Iraq and most intelligent Americans know that the numbers are low relative to other conflicts America has been involved in. The only reason to show photos would be for opponents of the war to exploit those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

As far as the DOD "granting access" to reporters or lack thereof I don't see anywhere in the constitution where is says that "freedom of the press" includes inclusion in "Military Events". Granting access to reporters and cameramen should be up to the Family of the deceased not the DOD or the American people.

Like those cowards would show up.

As demonstrated this week for Sgt. Baumann, we honor our fallen. These swine want to exploit them.

C'mon Inky, Nonno, lets get together to talk about it. Please?

What part of the constitution says you can use images of dead citizens to further a political agenda?

Endorsed by the National Press Photographers Association, Geez I guess so. They want to make a buck off taking pictures of coffins.

Not hard to figure out their agenda.
