Capt. Stormchaser (Geraldo) was just standing on the 17 ft seawall they built after the 1900 storm and water was already coming over the top...easily. Of course they showed a couple of soon to be statistics playing in already flooding streets. "Couple of nutjobs" is the term the mustache used to describe those folks.

Now that makes more sense. On the news this morning, they kept saying a "seven" foot sea wall. Thought that sounded kinda low.

The Galveston Seawall, USA, constructed in 1902, is a seawall that was built after the Galveston Hurricane of 1900 for protection from future hurricanes. The Seawall has never been overtopped by a storm surge from hurricanes but waves from the storms have caused considerable damage to buildings that line Seawall Boulevard. Texas F.M. 3005, otherwise known as Seawall Boulevard along the wall, runs along the Seawall.
The seawall is presently 10 miles (16 km) long. It is approximately 17 feet (5.2 m) high, and 16 feet (4.9 m) thick at its base. The seawall was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1977 and designated a National Civil Engineering Landmark by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) in 2001.[1]

And the folks who report the news are supposed to know how to research a topic.

Geraldo just ate it. During a live remote a piece of debris came up and took him down LIVE

A couple of firemen came up and laughed at him and helped to his and sid to get off the seawall, so what did he do? Walked backwards towards teh water.

Houston and all of east Texas is very swampy with lots of bayous. Three times during my high school years we schools were closed for over a week due to flooding from heavy rain. The 59 corridor from Livingston down to the Humble area have to deal with floods frequently.
I talked to a cousin this morning who is evacuating. I asked him if he was sandbagging. He said they didn't think there would be any point so they are just putting boats on trailers to go with them so they will be able to get back to their homes sooner.
But it's Texas so as long as they have their Suburban, beer and a boat they can make it through.
