Get Your Obama Presidential Coin Here!

A company in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter is making commemorative coins for American presidential hopeful Barack Obama.

And if the Democratic candidate is elected to become the most powerful man in the world on November 4, it could open the floodgates for millions of pounds worth of business for the firm.

Windsor, Elizabeth & Windsor has already sold more than 300 limited edition commemorative silver coins to the Democratic Party to hand out to key members of the campaign to elect Obama.

The coins already sold to the Democrats will be presented to the senators, congressmen, governors and other politicians they are being given to within the next two weeks.

There will also be a television advertising campaign launched in the US.

I want one of those coins! But they're only going to Democrat big-wigs.

Yeah that is going to be a great souvenir either way the election goes, but I think more so if the Magic Negro loses

Does the coin have "In God We Trust" on it?

Does it have its true value printed on it? Zero?

We know of course it has a portrayal of Zero on the face. What is on the back? A portrayal of BS?

Hurry, while supplies last. It'll be worth every dollar (or pound) you spend on it. Honest, it's bound to be a collector's item. Allow 4-8 weeks for delivery. Shipping and handling costs added. Credit cards accepted. Sorry, no C.O.D.

Obama’s image, like that of Roman emperors and European monarchs, to appear on commemorative coins
by Bill Levinson

It is illegal for the U.S. Mint to produce a coin that bears the image of a living person, and the U.S. Postal Service never puts a living person’s picture on its stamps. This taboo probably dates back to the War of Independence, when the Founding Fathers decided that the United States would never exalt an individual, no matter how prominent, in the manner of Roman emperors and European monarchs.

This law does not apply, of course, to private mints that produce commemorative (non-legal-tender) coins, and United States law does not apply to British subjects either. This does not mean that the Democratic Party has to approve the effective deification of its candidate in the manner of a king or a Roman emperor, as one British firm is doing. Windsor, Elizabeth, and Windsor is stamping commemorative coins with Obama’s face, with his jaw protruding in an appropriately heroic pose, in front of the White House.

If Barack Obama had any character or ethics, he would denounce this coin’s production as inappropriate. If the Democratic Party had any connection to American values, it also would denounce this coin as an inappropriate glorification and deification of an individual. Instead, the Democratic Party has “jumped at the chance” to buy and circulate these coins. In conjunction with Obama’s use of a personalized Presidential seal, and his acceptance speech in a stadium filled with groupies and fanatics, this shows that Obama’s candidacy is nothing more than a dangerous personality cult similar to those of others who have given speeches from balconies to throngs of mindless fanatics.

A company in Birmingham’s [United Kingdom] Jewelery Quarter is making commemorative coins for American presidential hopeful Barack Obama.

...When they got in touch with the Democrats the party jumped at the chance. And the coins have proved such a hit that locally produced versions have already been launched to compete with the UK originals.

The coins show Senator Obama’s face, along with a picture of the White House and the legend “President of the United States of America”.

Here is the law that forbids the U.S. Mint to strike coins with the likenesses of living persons.

you gotta follow the link to see the pics posted as well ....

Our Imperious Leader has been set on coinage now .......

Render unto Obama
posted at 8:10 am on September 24, 2008 by Ed Morrissey

First we had the Vero Possumus seal, and then the Barackopolis. One might have thought that Team Obama would have learned their lesson on hubris and self-absorption, but a deal with a British firm goes even farther. Democrats have begun striking coins with Barack Obama’s profile — and already proclaiming him President:
Quote:
The coins already sold to the Democrats will be presented to the senators, congressmen, governors and other politicians they are being given to within the next two weeks.

There will also be a television advertising campaign launched in the US.

The company directors got the idea of producing the coins after seeing actress Meryl Streep talking about Barack Obama on a television programme.

When they got in touch with the Democrats the party jumped at the chance. And the coins have proved such a hit that locally produced versions have already been launched to compete with the UK originals.

The coins show Senator Obama’s face, along with a picture of the White House and the legend “President of the United States of America”.
Apparently, the coin does not include the new motto of the United States: Vero Possumus. Instead, it declares Obama President, well ahead of when Americans get to make that choice. If that seems rather presumptuous, it only appears that way to those who have not watched the cult of personality grow over the last few months.

Julius Caesar was the first Roman to put his image on coins, which started his downfall. Barack Obama may be the first person in history to start striking coins in his image before taking power. Maybe he just wants to look like all those other presidents on the dollar bills, but this is starting to get … creepy.
