Why do you doubt that? What information do you have about the San Diego Fire Department administration which would prove these men to be liars? They stated they filed a complaint and then were mistreated.

Why should anyone be forced to ride through a parade, especially if it's not something they want to celebrate? If some firefighters who celebrate that wanted to ride in it, fine...but don't force anyone to participate in that. It's just rude. Same with anything, they should never be forced to do something they don't want to do or don't agree with.

In my lifetime, white medical professionals were not required to treat sick or non-critically injured black persons.

I find it interesting that instead of going to their union, their first stop was representation, not by just any law firm, but by a conservative religious legal firm.

Anyway, yours doesn't work. I am a white woman, free of racial bigotry for the most part, and I would not want to ride in a parade where I was going to be harassed by men of any color.

If that was the purpose of the parade - Playboy Bunny float, say, where it was a given that men where going to catcall and make rude gestures - that would be one thing. But if I were riding in a parade as a representative of a non-sexual occupation, I wouldn't appreciate the harassment and would refuse to participate in the future. And if my boss said my participation was mandatory, I would indeed file a lawsuit.

The reason it doesn't pass is because you don't want it to pass. I've seen you post for quite a while now; you're much too intelligent to try and pretend you don't track.

Part of the problem with this whole incident is that we're getting our information about what happened 3rd and 4th hand. It's also appealing to each of our individual biases, regardless of what actually did or did not happen. Like you, I'm relatively free of bigotry. My biases mostly have to do with being intolerant of intolerance, if I can put it that way. I do have my irrational, fear-based leanings, but I do my best not to let those dominate my thinking.

There seems to be no evidence, so far, at least, that they actually went through the official channels to try and fight this thing. In one of the narratives in the link I provided to the local Fox news, at least one of the fire fighters told his captain that he wasn't comfortable, but otherwise took a wait-and-see approach to the whole thing. After that, he appears to bypass the union grievance thing, and instead went to a conservative religious legal firm to file a lawsuit.

Note that he also made contact with other captains in other fire houses, prior to the parade...something that's sure to win friends and influence the higher ups; no matter what the impetus. Despite his original attempts to try and protect his chances for making captain, he's pretty well kissed that promotion goodbye. Unless he can sue over that.

Apples and Oranges. I never said anything about race. You can twist it all around as much as you want to try to make your point but when it comes down to it, homosexuality is a perversion. It's not perverted to be a wop or spic or kike. So, there really is no connection. I guess you could replace the words I used to describe fags with "child molestor" or "sheep fu*ker" and you'd be a little closer. They are two other types of sexual perversion. So, what is it you are into, gay sex, kids or sheep?
