Isabel Updates: Charles County

ISABEL UPDATES: CHARLES COUNTY

September 20, 2003 -- All shelters for the housing of Hurricane Isabel victims have been closed in Charles County.

Debris Removal Program

* On Monday, September 22, 2003, the Breeze Farm Recycling Center, Route 254, Cobb Island, will be open from 7:30 a.m.-6 p.m. for the disposal of hurricane-related wooden and construction debris from bulkheads, piers, decks, etc.

* Beginning Tuesday, September 23, Breeze Farm Recycling Center will be open weekdays from 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. and Friday-Sunday, from 7:30 a.m.-6 p.m. for the disposal of hurricane-related debris. Service is free of charge.

* Beginning Monday, September 22, hurricane-related debris can be brought roadside, within the County right-of-way, where it will be picked up for disposal. Be careful not to block mailboxes or impede traffic in any way. No debris is to be placed on the pavement. It is important to separate green debris from wooden construction-related debris, such as siding and wooden timbers. Green debris includes trees, brush, shrubs, limbs, and leaves. Citizens should realize that it will take about one month for the completion of one round of pickup throughout the County due to the extensive area of hurricane damage. This service is not for disposal of household trash.

* PLEASE NOTE: This program will not affect the regularly scheduled pickup for those residents who currently receive the curbside yard waste recycling service. Curbside recycling of yard waste will still continue to be picked up on your regular day of service and consist of branches that do not exceed four feet in length or six inches in diameter, leaves, grass clippings, etc. Curbside recyclable yard waste must be placed in a trash can with a yard waste sticker or in a paper yard waste bag. No loose brush or plastic bags will be accepted. No individual container or bundle of yard waste can exceed 50 pounds.
