Cold War revisited: It got a little chillier today

Russia to base missiles on EU border: Medvedev

Russia will place short-range missile systems on the EU's eastern border to counter planned US missile defence installations in Eastern Europe, President Dmitry Medvedev said on Wednesday.
"Iskander missile systems will be deployed in the Kaliningrad region to neutralise the missile defence system," Medvedev said.

"There will also be radio-electronic neutralisation of the new US missile defence installations from the Kaliningrad region," he added.

The United States is pursuing plans to build a radar base in the Czec Republic and install interceptor missiles in Poland to counter what it describes as a missile threat from "rogue states" such as Iran.

Russia has said there is no such threat and that the installations are in fact a direct threat to its security. High-level negotiations between the US and Russia on the installations have ended with no compromise.

Russia measures her strength by thwarting the USA's goals.
Reducing our oil needs will make us less vulnerable, including the Georgia issue.

We'll send Secratary of State John Kerry to organize our immediate withdrawal and offer the Russian's 10 Billion dollars for their troubles...

Wow this may be a fun 4 years...

But, but, but... Didn't W once look into Putin's eyes and pronounce that "Vladie" had a good soul?

I don't understand how W could have been so wrong... maybe his soul-senser was out of calibration that day.

I read that he was going to make this speech right after the election -- inopportune timing if you ask me. Russia has every right to put up a strategic defense just as we do. But I hope Obama steps in and thwarts the CZ base, thereby making these Russian actions look silly.

Putin is no longer in power. Been out for some time now actually.

I wish Putin was in power. Dmitry Medvedev is just scary.

Buwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahhaha!

Obama is more likely to get down on his knees and "do" Putin than he is to back him down.

We just might actually fight this time.

I better beef up.

You're kidding yourself if you think Medvedev is actually calling the shots: he's merely Charlie McCarthy to Putin's Edgar Bergan.
