I mean, here's Obama's Senate voting record:
Votes by Barack Obama | Congress votes database | washingtonpost.com

So it doesn't look to me like he spent a lot of time being, you know, a Senator.
You're right, any sitting elected official is distracted from their current job if they're running for another office. Yes Obama was away from his Senate job while campaigning as was McCain and GW Bush was away from the TX Governor's job when he ran for POTUS in 2000.

Maybe it's time for a new rule/law that requires sitting elected officails to resign from their current office before they can file as a candidate for a different office.

I'd go for that totally. And I realize they all do it, Dem and Rep alike, but if someone wants to bust on Sarah Palin for giving up her governorship, I'm certainly going to point out their hypocrisy. The Palin bashing is way old and especially ironic coming from Obama disciples.

That would be one of those rare "Well, that makes perfect sense" laws.

That would actually be exciting to see a push in Maryland to make that very thing state law.

It's not just coming from the Dem side. I saw Karl Rove and Mike Huckabee on Fox this morning and both were critical of Palin's choice. Ed Rollins was critical as well. The one person that I saw on Fox this morning who supported Palin's choice was Lt. Gov. Parnell. I disagree with her choice not becuase I'm being critcal of her, but because I think she should've stuck it out. The complaints against her were pretty much baseless.

You just made the point how someone in office is distracted, to say the least, if they are running for another office and now you think Palin should have stuck it out?

If nothing else, could we all agree that our current system has resulted in a congress with terribly low approval levels, presidents that 40-45% of us don't even care to bother voting for and primary systems that, if they weren't so real, would be dismissed as pathetic jokes that no one would dream up?

Doesn't it stand to reason that the status quo ain't exactly the best we could do?

I don't think that Karl Rove and Mike Huckabee were so much criticizing SP as they were saying that she isn't the status quo and wondering if it's a wise move in the long run, etc. They agree it's unconventional. I think that's confusing to a whole bunch of the pundits. They were on Fox News Sunday, so you can catch them at 6pm on FNC. Her Lt. Governor was on, too, and I could tell he wanted to say a whole lot more, but wasn't given as much time as the other two. I think he sees what Palin is doing.

Her doing this has shaken up the media and the political pundits quite a bit, which I think is a good thing!

If nothing else, I would think the 'compassionate conservative' scam was Rove's idea.

So, moving forward, how much of the problem was he and how much good did he do?

Probably because integrity is new to them and they don't know how to react to it. Palin is a wildcard - she doesn't bang with the gang and I think the way the GOP has treated her has really opened her eyes. She's not a coward or political hack, and the party faithful don't know what to make of her.

And I'm sure they fear her because she makes them look bad - like the weasels they are. And I'm talking about both Democrats AND Republicans. John McCain can pretend all he wants that Palin cost him the election, but the fact is that he'd have had an even bigger ass whoopin' if it weren't for her.
