Ex-Im defends Brazil loan

"Under fire from Sarah Palin and th Wall Street Journal over a proposed $2 billion loan to the Brazilian oil giant Petrobras, the U.S. Export Import Bank is circulating a fact sheet defending its proposal.

The document makes the point — left out by Palin's demand for more American jobs — that the bank is an export credit agency, designed to finance the purchase of U.S. goods and services.

"Only American made goods and services qualify for Ex-Im Bank loans or guarantees. This is the government doing what it's supposed to do — create jobs and make sure that Americans get a fair shot at selling goods and services and to help American workers compete on a level playing field," said the document, being circulated by Bank officials on Capitol Hill.

The bank also knocked down the (inevitable?) charge that this is really a plot to reward George Soros.

"The Bank’s bipartisan Board unanimously approved the preliminary commitment to Petrobras on April 14, 2009, before any Obama appointees joined the Bank," says the fact sheet.

But the bank does concede the point that the Journal focused on, and which Palin mentioned alongside her jobs argument: That the drilling in Brazil is of a sort banned in the United States.

"The Obama Administration’s policy on off-shore drilling within the United States remains unchanged, and the Obama Administration does not set drilling policy for another nation," says the document."

Wrong again Sarah! You didn't write that article, you're too incoherent. Time to hire someone other than the author of your latest facebook piece, someone who can knowledgeably discuss the Bank's operation and purpose.
