Has this ever happened before?

ARNIE TERMINATES HIS SALARY

November 19, 2003 -- California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger will say hasta la vista to a salary as he seeks ways to help his fiscally floundering state.

The multimillionaire actor-turned-pol said he'll take a pass on $175,000 in gubernatorial wages yesterday as he proposed a record bond issue of up to $15 billion to fund the state's budget deficit.

"I inherited a huge debt," Schwarzenegger said at his first news conference since taking office Monday. "It is not my doing. So now we have to figure out how to work with it."

He said the borrowing would have to be coupled with a constitutional cap on state spending.

He called for $2 billion in cuts from the state's general-fund budget, and said he would put together the details in the coming days.

"Absolutely, there will be budget cuts," he said. "I'm not going to take a salary . . . which is $175,000."

Don't think so... And I'll bet it'll never happen again.

An honorable move. It's not like he needed the money to live on anyway. I wonder if the CEO at my company would behave that way (fat chance!)
