JLab, in hindsight, I wish I'd have forgone children and gotten the golden retreiver. Right now I don't know why ANYONE would want children, let alone a gay couple.

Larry's brother says that children are the new status symbol among the gay set. He's gay himself so he'd know better than I about that. Maybe it's a bid for normalcy?

Anyway, I don't think gay couples can do any worse raising kids than their heterosexual counterparts do. Certain groups had a cow when Melissa Etheridge and her baby Mommy broke up but how is that different than the millions of hetero couples that divorce?

I don't know what causes it - but I didn't choose to be overweight, either. It just came about as a consequence of things I did, over time. I didn't "choose" being a nerdy geek, but I was hardly BORN that way, either. As much as people who believe the things I do get ridiculed, I would not have chosen what I believe - but I can't help it, it's what I think.

BUT - I'd REALLY be an idiot if I thought that NOTHING I've done in my life made me who I am *today*.

I would much rather have been **born** a hunky, virile, handsome, blond, blue-eyed blue-blood, RICH kid who got all the girls and was the captain of the football team. But I didn't have all of that. I got the hand I was dealt, and I've lived with my choices which - over TIME - has led me to the person I am now. I don't want to list every failing of mine, but if I'd known how a lot of things were going to turn out, I would have done things differently. Just as bad eating habits will make you fat, bad habits and bad behavior will mold your character.

I don't care if being 'gay' is something you are born with, or something you become as a consequence of environment, or something someone just 'becomes' - I don't care. What matters to me is the kind of person you are. If you're a vindictive, double-crossing lying little weasel, I intend to kick your azz to the curb as often as I can (metaphorically speaking, of course).

Character amd integrity matter more than the rest of that stuff. And you DO choose that, but it is not easy.

BUT - saying "I didn't CHOOSE to be this way" is a cop-out because it's not honest. You don't KNOW that. A family member DID choose to be an alcoholic, but hardly on *purpose*. And another chose drugs, but not on purpose.

I did too choose to be overweight, too. Mea culpa.

Noone is perfect. I dont approve of homosexuality, but if all the kid's got is gay parents (that love him), better that than living on the street or in a foster home.

The staff was wrong by punishing the kid, and should be corrected on this, but how many times have our personal beliefs influenced a decision that may have been inappropriate at the time?

Wow! That's really sad that the little boy can't talk about his family like that. I guess we have to accept that there are still alot of narrow minded people out there. Personally, I am far from being a lesbian. But if a gay or lesbian wants a child, then more power to them. As long as they don't abuse the child then I see nothing wrong with it. Hell, there are alot of wack-o kids out there with straight parents, so having a parent that is gay can't possibly be any worse. Can it?
