Niagara goes dry...

... in June 1969.

41 year old photos surface, showing the face of the great Falls.

That is a WHOLE lot more interesting having been there rather than just some pics of a place I'd never been to.

Niagara is amazing.

Hmmmm....I was there that October or November on a class trip. We were on the Canadian side. I remember seeing Horseshoe Falls, going to some observation platform under the falls (rocks & big yellow raincoats), and going up the elevator on the outside of that big space-needle type observation tower (with my eyes closed -- afraid of heights). I do NOT remember seeing this!

Crap! The Falls stop for the first time in 12,000 years, I'm there in person, and I don't remember seeing it!

You need to be on the Canada side to really appreciate both falls, especially at night with the American falls lit up. However, there are also a few places where you can literally stand a few feet from the edge and see all the power and volume of water rushing past.

I've been there about 4 times in the past and it just amazes me the amount of water flowing over the falls at any given moment. Of course you need to do the Maid of the Mist to really "feel" the falls. Last time we were there, we did the Maid of the Mist and the behind the falls tour. Funny thing there was hardly any crowds the day we went due to the [light] rain. The next day it was a perfect 80° day and everything was packed. I thought it odd that people stayed away from an attraction because of rain when there was already a 100% chance of getting wet.

Maybe it's the thought of standing in long lines waiting your turn and being wet before you get to the boat that's part of the psychology.
