Feral Chickens?

LAKELAND --
Feral chickens have gotten to be such a problem in a part of Polk County that a team of chicken chasers have been called in to round them up.

More than 600 of the chickens are said to be running around in northwest Lakeland.

The neighborhood legend is that some folks in the area used to have chickens in cages and let them go and over the years, allowing the population to multiply.

A company called Squeal Deal Animal Control says the city is paying it a fee per chicken to catch the birds.

Lakeland calls in chicken chaser team to rid the city of feral fowls

Chicken Chaser, too funny.

But I'm sure somebody from the health department or some animals rights group will take exception to actually killing two birds with one stone. :getit?:

What kind of problems do they cause? I know Key West has a bunch and most residents seem to want them there. I do know if you sleep with your windows open down there you will be woken at dawn.

One of the many reasons the poor and homeless can't support themselves. They'd have to buy a permit, get a "chicken tag, get the chicken processed at a gov't approved facility, inspected then cooked at a licensed food preparation gov't licensed facility. That poor, homeless Guy would have to come up with $150-200 to catch and eat the chicken, and that doesn't include the legal fees to defend himself from the animal cruelty charges and lawsuits from PETA.
