Obama Says He Won’t Release bin Laden Photos: He‘s ’Not a Trophy’


The world will not see the Osama bin Laden death photos any time soon.

CBS News is reporting that in a “60 Minutes” interview set to air Sunday, the president will say that he will not release the reportedly gruesome photos of bin Laden’s death.

Excerpts of the interview will air on Wednesday night’s “CBS Evening News.”

“The risks of release outweigh the benefits,” the president told Steve Kroft in the interview. “Conspiracy theorists around the world will just claim the photos are doctored anyway, and there is a real risk that releasing the photos will only serve to inflame public opinion in the Middle East.”

“Imagine how the American people would react if Al Qaida killed one of our troops or military leaders, and put photos of the body on the internet,” ( what a feking retard ... scratch that, that would be an insult to retards ... The people want to see the photo, so give it to them. If you don't want to look at it, DON'T! With or without the picture, the animals will hate us. This one cowardly act will give the animals more resolve to destroy us. The picture should be released, but with a caption: Warning to the world! You mess with the US, and this will happen to you!

What is the real point of airing the images? I think we have sent enough of a message via the act of killing him. I don't say that because I'm weak or afraid, but because I don't foresee much being gained by putting it out there.

For those who are out to attack us, seeing the image(s) will not cause them to stop in their tracks and say, "Gosh, I don't want to end up like that!" These people are not afraid of death; the only thing that will stop them is death.

And thus, what is the harm in showing the images? Do those who wish us harm respect us, and then say "well, nevermind, they didn't show photos so we'll stop our plans for their harm."?

If the people need the closure of seeing them, need the transparency in government to see what our tax dollars paid for, why not?

There could be some weight to the moral argument that we do not want to sink to that level. Screw whatever the Muslims may think of us one way or the other. What would it say about us to put bin Laden's bloody face on the cover and make a big deal about it?

Personally, I don't need it. Didn't want to see JFKs head shots (no pun intended), nor any other. Some people feel it's about transparency (I agree with that), some people need the closure (personally, i disagree with that, but that's for them to decide, not me for them).
