New York Legalizes Same Sex Marriage

Time to have fun with the conservatives

Given the state’s population, the vote essentially doubles the number of Americans who can gain access to same-sex marriage licenses, which previously have been available in five states and the District of Columbia.

Maybe they'll legalize this next:

A GRIEVING woman has married the love of her life — two years after he was killed in a car crash.

Yes, that's exactly what's next. It's all part of their evil plan! Come to the dark side, they apparently have cookies and butt sex for ALL!

First, let me say that a 'Marriage' is a union between a man and a woman and can be nothing more. I whole heartedly disagree with any state using the word 'Marriage' when enacting or discussing civil union laws of homosexuals.

That being said, I know some gay couples that have been together for 20+ years. I can't say I agree with their lifestyle (I believe that it's more often a phsycological effect than a biological) , but I can see how much they love & care about each other. Would denying them a 'Civil Union' be so wrong?
Do we have the right to deny them the same right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness? Are gays being legally bound to each other an infrigement on your rights?

We (those of us that are married) are all in civil unions now, regardless of a religious or civil ceremony. Our being married changes our legal status within the state and fed govt once we sign that liscense. We get taxed differently, we can make life decisions for our partners while not being blood relatives (well, most of us aren't), we're capable of being partners in business transactions without extra legal documentation (most of the time). I think most long term relationship gays just want the same things.

Being gay is not natural, normal, or (for most religions) moral. But they are who they are. Who are you and I to deny them the same legal right to be in legal partnership?

the states need to modify "Contract" law ...... really that is all a "marriage" is, a contract .......

make a legal proceeding the joins 2 people in a contract of Life, Partnership ... whatever

Marriage is a Religious Ceremony .....

exactly, and being so, the government is overstepping its authority to try and regulate a Religious Ceremony.

They have the authority to regulate contracts between individuals all they want.
Marriage through the church should not automatically give people legal privilege, after marriage, one should still be required to register the contract with the government. It should be a two step process.

It is already a two part process, the priest submits the paperwork to the state when the marriage occurs during a religious ceremony.

Congratulations to all those folks who are gay in NY and wish to marry! Another state (including 4 enlightened Republicans) affirmed equality for all of its citizens.

Too bad that marriage equality in Maryland was derailed by two female Democratic senators who stopped the momentum dead in its track so that they could highlight issues in their districts. And just love those politicians who believe that there should be no separation between church and state.
