Buying healthy and cheap foods is possible, but it requires effort, and obviously effort is not a hot commodity with these people either (or they'd probably have jobs which do not necessitate government assistance with their housing and feeding). I know that you can go to the farmer's market and get delicious healthy foods and it's nice and inexpensive to do so, then shoot over to a butcher shop for your meat which is cheaper than Giant's meat - or you can go hunting and get a huge amount of meat for the cost of ammo, and whatever it costs to chop it up into usable pieces (overall still way cheaper than buying it in packages).

I have no idea if farmer's markets and butchershops take EBT cards. I would tend to doubt it.


Anyway the point is, 73% lean ground beef is a hellova lot cheaper than 95% lean ground beef, and a 17 pound bag of Deep Fried CheezBallz + dip is a hellova lot cheaper than the equivalent amount of celery stalks + peanut butter. And it's a lot easier to go into Food Lion and Piggley-Wiggley to buy everything at once than it is to sit down and calculate the savings of dividing your shopping between the Butcher's, the farmers and roadside produce, dairy and egg stands. Or fishing & hunting yourself.

Not to mention the Yummy Factor, compounded by the fact you're dealing with people who avoid effort, and respond primarily to their base urges, and have not been trained in the delicate art of using your ####ing noggin. I'm actually surprised this element of society has not already collapsed like a neutron star, despite our efforts to keep them afloat.

A few of the vendors at Charlotte Hall Farmer's Market take the EBT card.

i'm lookin for a girlfriend on the government dole...I've been workin & payin my own way for 25 years now...paid my taxes so somebody else can suck off of the government teet...have a decent payin job & no debt. I would think I would be a fairly decent catch for one of these "ladies"...ah, who am I kidding...I still suffer from that whole "self respect" thing...they don't want me....
