The last one I got specified the following:

PANTY HOSE RULES:
  1. Panty-hose will be available in the following styles: sheer, support, patterned, colors, high-cut sheer panty, control top, thigh highs, sheer toe, reinforced toe. Choose the one that suits your needs best!
  2. When wearing a dress or skirt to the office or other workplace where "business attire" is specified, panty-hose must be worn. (NOTE: sundresses do not normally count as dresses but then, you shouldn't be wearing those to work anyway, should you? )
  3. If you are wearing open-toed shoes with panty-hose, you MUST wear sheer-toe panty-hose.
  4. Panty hose should never be worn with sandals (sandals are not appropriate for the workplace).
  5. Thigh highs should not be worn with short skirts (we are trying to work with the men, not make them slobber and drool!).
  6. Always keep a spare pair in your desk, purse or glove compartment for those days when jagged objects reach out and grab parts of your leg, thus creating a snag or tear. (A male co-worker's hand is not considered a jagged object -- it is instead an invitation to practice your street-safety anti-mugging moves.)
  7. Wildly patterned stockings and fishnets are to be saved for Halloween and bordellos respectively.
  8. Old, ripped stockings may be used for gardening, not bank-robbing.
  9. The forced wearing of panty-hose on 95 degree days in an office without air-conditioning is considered a health risk and will be grounds for justifiable homocide.
  10. Exceptions to the above may be made for workplaces where one or more of the following conditions exist: children are present, male attire is jeans & workboots, one is required to climb under/over/around machinery/computers to do repairs, there is no official dress code, persons older than 25 are never encountered, there is no AC in summer/heat in winter, and other conditions that may be mutually decided upon by boss and employee.
And now you tell me that this has been revoked? By whom?

This thread reminded me of the pantyhose days. I used to commute to DC. One hot day (like today and yesterday) I was sitting in back up on 301 and my A/C stopped working. It was near 100 degrees. Here I was, sitting in traffic, creeping along, trying to discreetly take the damn pantyhose off. I was so hot I thought I was going to explode.

Definitely in cooler/cold weather for most work attire or any formal affair (in any weather) I am a traditionalist, and think it is more polished looking.

*Although, if you do feel that you want to go pantyhoseless in the summer (nice summer work dresses/skirts/capri's) at work- I HIGHLY recommend Sally Hansen | Airbrush Legs

During these scorching summer months, I've gotten brave (at age 52) and have gone without PH at work. But I use this and have even received compliments on my "tan".

A sundress and sandals is one thing, but the thought of putting bare feet inside a pair of $100+ closed shoes is just downright icky to me. I'm not much of a PH person anymore; I like the TH's better.

I rarely wear closed shoes in the summer or winter anyway. Most of my favorite styles nowadays are either sandal style or open toed.

Ewww. I once had a teacher that had some seriously thick, coarse black hair on her legs - didn't seem to occur to her that it looked completely unkempt and DIRTY smashed in every direction under the nylon.

I hate pantyhose. I think they were designed by the devil. I never wear them. In the winter if I wear a dress I sometimes where patterned tights (which have been popular the past couple of years.) But mostly I just wear pants in the winter because I hate being cold and pantyhose are uncomfortable and less warm then pants.
