In fact, the few actual black Africans I know always seem peeved by he AA term and don't like to be associated with it. On top on that I don't know that other than TV I have ever heard a black describe people from their group as AA. Also I have used the term black around blacks and it has never been an issue.
You're partially correct (for a change). The phrase of art is now "People or Person of Color."
That term is actually used to describe any nonwhite person, it's not specific to any one group.

Not all black people are of African descent, which is why it's racist and ignorant to refer to them with the blanket term, "African American."

"Black" isn't right because black people aren't really black, they're varying shades of brown. I still like "Negro" and don't understand why black people find it offensive. "Negro" sounds dignified and upper-class, not to mention it's more accurate.

It was a term developed by anthropologists, some of whom were caucasian.
That makes it a "white man's label"

And also not all Africans are black, there are a lot of white Africans in south Africa.

And white people aren't really white....

But i can guess the problem with Negro is two fold. One it harkens back to the precivil rights movement when that term was much more commonly used, and two it sounds like the N word. While it obviously doesnt have the same meaning, less educated people are going to make the instant association like they did with the term niggardly.

That, too. My former neighbor was born in Africa - a true African-American - and she's as blonde and blue-eyed as they come.

If we cannot manage to refer to people as just "people" (in this case, American" people), can someone please make a final decision on what the particular group of people wishes to be called so we can finally settle on a label for the month of February. It is confusing the school children when we call it Black History Month one place and African American History Month another place.

Someday, perhaps we will get to the point that it's just "History Month" and we can celebrate the accomplishments of all people equally. I doubt that I'll be alive to see it since there are a lot of folks with agendas out there, but one can always hope...
