Do you suppose that neighborhood is some lily white enclave, or might there be black families that live there as well? The guy in the story is Hispanic, so that tells me we're not talking about WASPville here.

My guess, and I could be wrong, is that the black families that live in this gated community are as concerned about safety as their white neighbors. I'm sure they don't like trespassers any more than anyone else and don't care to have their houses robbed regardless of the ethnicity of the perp.

I'm less interested in what the media, black militia groups and Hollywood have to say about this, and more interested in what the neighbors say.

I'm pretty sure the family isn't going to release photos of him looking scruffy and sucking on a crack pipe. Note that the main photo thrown out there is clearly several years old, with Martin as a cherubic 12 year old.

I think you are trying to blur the point. If, in fact, young black males are shown to have been committing a lot of crimes recently in that area, then, by definition, he is suspect being in that area and at night.

If you got ripped off by an auto mechanic, most people tend to look at white guys with greasy hands and a name tag that says 'Steve' on one side and 'Mr. #### you in the ass Wrench' on the other, there is some stereotyping that occurs EVERY time you go get your car worked on.

If some sleazy, smooth talking son of a ##### comes up to you at the car lot, you will immediately make him out to be a car salesman. Or Bill Clinton.

If it is a really rich, well dressed white guy from Goldman Sachs you will tend to observe that it takes a gun to rob the store and a bank to rob a nation.

Of course at this point we only have the shooter's word that there have been a lot of crimes committed by young black males in that area.
