It probably depends on the phone exchange you aren or how close you are to the accident site for cell towers. It went down right in front of me and I exited 264 about a mile from the crash. I was on my cell a couple of times while passing in front of Oceana and haven't had ant problem at anytime. Some people near the site reported cell service was jammed up with calls.

The F18 were tested here at Pax River NAS, and at that time I worked for the A4 maintenance, and the F18 pilots were afraid to fly the the F18 as it was riddled with defects and continually returned under emergency conditions with repeated system failures.

We (the USA) are very fortunate that the Soviet Union decided to end the "Cold War", and very fortunate that the USSR did not call Reagan on his bluff as they could have killed us all.

Did you learn that in jail?

You do know what prototype and testing means right?

No, I am 56 years old and I witnessed the events myself.

Though I did learn a lot of other cool stuff while in jail, but that came years later.

I have no idea as to whatever you might mean by those terms.

Perhaps if you would explain your own meaning then there would be some communication.

And...as a mission controller that provided precision control for the majority of testing on every model that has been built, I worked hand-in-hand with the same pilots. They all expressed their trust in the aircraft under all conditions including forcing intentional out of control flight conditions. No one ever expressed anything other than complete confidence in the aircraft. Beyond that it has proven itself to be an extremely reliable aircraft after 100's of thousands of flight hours.

That's why Pax River is called a 'test facility'. Every plane ever flown had major issues during the test phase. That's the only way to find, and weed out the problems. Once those issues get resolved, you have a stable aircraft. The F-14 was a wonderful aircraft, but we lost many to "offsite landings" during the initial testing due to everything from hydraulics and engine failure to pilot error.
