This Pit was raised by a loving family who have children and have never bred them for fighting, crimes, etc. Nor was this dog abused. It snapped. The docs up a Children's said they see more Pit bites than they do car accident victims in kids under 14. Look up the stats on pit bull bites nationwide.

I say if you own one.... you BETTER know the stats and be aware that even the best, most "loving" baby can turn in the blink of an eye. Yes, I know, any breed can do this, but like I said.... look up the stats on pits. If you still want them, I pray to God that you do not let them around kids... if you do, I pray that you never have to go through what my daughter and Grandson are going through.

I'm sorry this happened to the little guy. Most (not all) Pitbull type breed owners wear blinders and ignore the nationally published stats (I have posted here many times) and think their lovable dog wouldn't harm a flea. Even their own posts (in this and other threads) mention facts that their innocent dogs are aggressive. The dogs have a natural aggressive nature. It has nothing to do with how the dog was raised.

Did you also know that there are above 73 MILLION dogs in the US, and, on average, 7.3% are "Pit Bulls"? That's 5.2 MILLION "Pit Bulls". What's second on the list? Rottweiliers with 900,000. Even your stats below show what a terror these animals are. Out of all the breeds the Pitt at only 7.3% causes the most deaths!! Great reason right there to regulate them!!

Some more information for you: From 1979-1998, fatal attacks by breed break down like this;
Pit Bulls - 66%
Rottweiliers - 39%
German Shepards - 17%
Chows - 8%

Divide the dog's population by attacks and you get the attack probability:
Pit Bulls - .00125 %
Rottweiliers - .00433 %
German Shepards - .00217%
Chows - .00333%

There is even newer data that supports yours above that these beasts should be regulated or annihilated.

Well here's one for you. The Clifton Study puts this breed as THE most likely to commit canine homicide. That does not include attacks that do not end in death. Thank God ours did not.

Like I said, this dog was not raised to be mean.... it's just in their genes. Like it or not.

And it was NOT in the local news, came across the scanner as "animal bite", but Beth at the Fox 5 news desk is trying to get this story on air....

Also... there WILL be a lawsuit, because the owners DID NOT keep their word and do the right thing, so I am sure you all will be reading about in the Emptyprise and the County Slimes.

FREDERICK, MD – President Blaine Young of the Frederick Board of County Commissioners today expressed great displeasure over a recent court case of Tracey v. Solesky held by the Maryland Court of Appeals that targets pit bull and pit bull mixture dogs.
President Young said, “Frederick County will not profile pit bulls into extinction due to this unfortunate ruling. The ruling was 4 – 3, and I personally agree with the minority opinion in the case. We wholeheartedly support and are confident that our Animal Control Division has the proper policies in place to address aggressiveness in animals.
“The board agrees with the recommendation of Director Harold Domer to abide by the process that is already in place at the shelter. The real focus should be on the way animals are raised, treated and trained, and no one breed should be the main focus of attention. I personally know several people who own pit bulls as family pets and they are very well behaved and friendly. Frederick County has not had the degree of incidents to merit this kind of extreme response.”

Good job or not... Frederick County is just setting itself up to be a party to a lawsuit the first time a pit or pit mix attacks someone in their county. Someone suing the county will take up valuable county tax dollars

I'm not for or against this law. In my experience, I've seen personally some of the real horror stories from these animal attacks. Sometimes, the attacks are with some version of provocation - people are wrestling and the dog thinks it's protecting its owner, a child is running and the dog acts on instinct, etc. Other times, a dog which has been civil and friendly to a person hundreds of times before suddenly snaps for no apparent reason. I think the dogs are like anything else - unpredictable.

The real issue is the precedent which has now been set and cannot be changed without legislative action or further judiciary action. Anyone who fights this tooth and nail is in for a long haul, and any county that tries to fight it tooth and nail is asking for civil penalties.
