Atheist group wants memorial removed

Atheists want 91-year-old firefighter's war memorial removed
I don't get it. What harm is it doing them?

Why do they need to tear down every religious symbol they see?

They're conducting a war on Christianity and are angry at God

I understand where this comes from, as Christian teachings are often the target of contradiction from atheists. This has more to do with demographics than with an active effort to undermine Christianity specifically. Because Christianity is the most popular religion in the US it seems to come under attack most frequently however, Christianity is not being singled out by atheists but the dogma of Christianity is more widely known so an argument against specifically Christian beliefs can be understood by a wider audience.

Simply put, atheists disagree with all theistic groups equally.

3) All Atheists Are Angry With God

I put the word “All” in this one because there are certainly some people identifying themselves as atheists who do seem to have something personal against “god” (whichever of the many possible ideals of “god” the individual is speaking about). Anger with a deity is not, however, implicit in atheism. In fact, a person calling themselves an atheist while still holding a grudge against a deity is most likely to fall back into religious thinking once their emotions have settled and their life (as it is apt to do) improves.

To someone who is an atheist for more grounded reasons not dependent on an emotional state being angry with “god” makes as much sense as being angry with Lord Voldemort for killing Harry Potter’s parents or at Darth Vader for cutting of Luke’s hand. It simply does not make sense to be angry at something you view to be fictional.

Just another radical group using religion to force their ideals.

I would consider myself Atheist, but I wouldn't go around telling Christians they can't display a cross.

Not all atheists are that way. If someone wants to try and inform me why my non-belief in god is wrong, I'll be happy to debate the reasons rationally. Otherwise, who cares? They're call personal beliefs for a reason.
