With corn crops at 20 year lows

Wouldn't it be an excellent time to get rid of ethanol production? It really seems like corn is much more important as food than as gas.

Heard the other day there is a "backout waiver" process in the Federal legislation that drove the Ethanol-additive panic. If food supplies will be endangered, mandatory ethanol additives could be waived. But I wonder how much more it will cost per gallon since the refineries will have to 'disable' the additive process. Then again, would this require AlGore to surrender his Nobel, Oscar and Grammy awards?

Yes, stop ethanol production so there will be enough corn for that yummy high-fructose syrup.

Less HFCS is probably the only good to come of ethanol production.

You are wrong
it raises the cost of fuel, and food at the same time.
is there any better way for the government to control their subjects?

I guess it would depend on your definition of "good", because these don't fall under mine.

Read somewhere that although the corn - and other crops - are going to suffer as a result of this year's weather - the costs will rise but not outrageously so.

But the reason was annoying - the actual cost of the corn or vegetable itself is only a very small part of the cost at the register. So if the cost of corn doubles in price, it may only raise the cost of something with corn flour by 5%, because most of the cost of the item lies in things like advertising, transportation, labor and packaging.

That's astonishing to me. It costs like a penny to buy an ear of corn, and 50 cents to put it in a package at Giant.
