Not unlike the Jewish tallit katan (prayer shawl), these garments are worn underneath regular clothes. Temple garments serve as a personal reminder of covenants made with God to lead good, honorable, Christlike lives. The wearing of temple garments is an outward expression of an inward commitment to follow the Savior.
Biblical scripture contains many references to the wearing of special garments. In the Old Testament the Israelites are specifically instructed to turn their garments into personal reminders of their covenants with God (see Numbers 15:37-41). Indeed, for some, religious clothing has always been an important part of integrating worship with daily living. Such practices resonate with Latter-day Saints today.
Because of the personal and religious nature of the temple garment, the Church asks all media to report on the subject with respect, treating Latter-day Saint temple garments as they would religious vestments of other faiths. Ridiculing or making light of sacred clothing is highly offensive to Latter-day Saints.
So what hate filled article or document did you read that said their temple garments have "magical powers" and whcih beliefs do you have that are much better that would give you the right to make fun of theirs??

as far as the smart ass response, I fail to see where my suggestion to show examples solicited such animosity on your part.

however, it would also be nice to stick to maybe 1900 and forward for the examples. and dont try to bring Westboro into it, they are false Christians hiding behind a Bible, and the protection of Religion in order to offend people to the point of getting a response they can sue for. Its about money, not gays for these people.

I'm not going to debate wether or not Mormons are Christian enough for you. That is not the point. Joseph smith was killed by Christians who shared your view that he was not Christian.

ETC said that Christians DO NOT kill people who disagree with them. History is full of examples of that being untrue. That was my only point - that there is no religion that does not have a fanatical fringe that is willing to kill.

ETC's logic was flawed.

I bet there is at least one anecdotal killing of people for religious persecution throughout history for every religion.

I would also contend that much of the Crusades were more about governmental power plays using religion (the quasi government of the time) as justification.
My point is that ETC is wrong that Christians do not kill. Stop trying to read more into it.

I'm not mormon, why would I wear their temple garments?

We don't have to stay in the last 12 years. We can go back the last 100 years. No christian in the last 100 yrs has killed because Jesus or a saint was insulted.

If only Bill Maher and John Stewart and Chris Mathews and others would bring this up when talking about Islam, I could begin to respect their views. As it is, they are rather selective in which religions they mock.
