Md gun sales UP 83%

Quote:
n the weeks following the Nov. 6 election, applications for gun ownership increased 83 percent, according to a Maryland State Police spokeswoman
Quote:
“Everybody’s scared he’s trying to ban guns. ... It’s a trickle effect, the economy’s bad, more people are breaking in (into homes),” Loane said. “I have just as much ladies come in here as I do men.”

County police reported an 8.9 percent decrease in serious crimes, including robbery and burglary, last year.

I don't suppose Bob Costas read this?

Is it that every fears a ban on guns and get yours when the getting is good or that people fear what that ‘fundamentally transform America’ thing really means. For me, it happens to be the latter. If our government is going to ban guns that will not only be a ban on the sale of guns but they will also ban the ownership of guns and force owners to either turn them in or lock them away in a place (like an armory) where only the government can approve possession. It would be a massive undertaking for the government to go from home to home to confiscate everyone’s firearms.

In either instance the only recourse is for the people to start forming up militias. Do we really see this happening?

IMO, that would be a huge step.

They will limit, as much as possible, by dsoing things like banning "assault rifles", based only on the fact that "they aren't used for any sporting purpose".

So people are buying them up to beat the clock on any ban? It's been my impression peoples' feelings were more ominous; that they anticipate a complete government overhaul that would involve dissolving the constitution and standing up a dictator-style government. Preparing for a civil war.

It doesn't make any sense why people would buy something that they had no interest in buying before simply because they are going to be banned; unless they felt their overall personal security and liberties were at risk.

Maybe they were going to get one, but hadn't gotten around to it because of time, money was tight, etc.? Now they feel they have to while the getting is good. I fall into that category for some of the Class III stuff I've been wanting to get.

A wholesale ban would never work and Congress doesn't have the stomach for any major new anti-gun laws. What we will see is incremental regulations that will take it a way piecemeal. Banning certain types of ammo, ammo taxes, expensive registration schemes, certain scary looking features on weapons could be outlawed. An outright ban ain't going to happen, it would be political suicide.

I'm sure there are some people wearing tinfoil hats that believe that, but there are others who listened to Obama's comments about banning assault rifles, and took that as a start to gun control. That, plus the UN Gun treaty, and Diane Finestein looking to introduce another gun ban...people are stocking up I guess.

Kalifornia doesn't count. They deserve what they get for voting in the morons they have over there.

Not to mention they pick and chose what federal laws they like. The people vote for medicinal marijuana, then get raided by federal police because it's illegal under federal law.

Now they want to ban certain guns under state law, and disregard federal law.

That sort of backward-ass thinking is what is wrong with our political system now, and unfortunately there is no end in sight.

The worst part? There are 3 Supreme Court judges that are in their 70's. IF they pass away within 4 years, who do you think will get elected? It sure as hell won't be a gun-loving conservative. Basically dooming us to that person's lifetime of liberal Constitutional interpretation.

It's just the beginning. With Obama in for another term, the brakes are off. He will take a shot at gun control, but I think they will end up with a lot of problems for their efforts especially if they use the UN treaty to initiate confiscation.
