Another dog shot by police

Quote:
As we've reported in our previous coverage, on view below in its entirety, Chloe slipped out of the garage where she was being kept. A neighbor, Kenny Collins, saw her running loose and called the authorities -- and upon the arrival of officers, he recorded what happened next on a cell-phone camera. As captured in raw footage on page two of this update, Chloe is tased by a policeman and snared on a catch pole by a community service officer. But the policeman felt Chloe remained out of control and fired his weapon five times, shooting and killing her.
Quote:
"In the minutes before the shooting, we see the officers standing with their backs to the dog, which was less than ten feet away. They show no concern about safety that would rise to the level of shooting a dog -- and Chloe is just sitting there, paying no attention to them. If this dog was such an imminent threat and so vicious, you'd think you wouldn't be able to take your eye off her, but the officers are there for several minutes -- and during that time, she doesn't do anything that would warrant what ultimately happened to her."

You would. There are only a handfull of people who think it's perfectly ok to sit and stare at a dog for 5 minutes before poling it, tasing it, then shooting it 5 times.

I just talked to five people and showed them the video. All five said they would have shot the dog under those same conditions. The consensus was that the officers safety is far more important than the dog's life.

If officer safety was the concern, maybe they should have not stood there, watching the dog, for 5 minutes. That dog never made a move until it was poled. Let me wrap a rope around your neck, drag you, tase you, and you aren't allowed to move, or you'll be considered dangerous.

If it were the public safety, maybe they should have caught the dog that ran out of the garage after they shot.

So how long do you want to keep paying these people to have that dog bark at them? Do you want them to stand there until the owner comes home? They can set up shifts, or assign over time officers to watch this dog bark at them.

Here's a crazy idea....let Animal Control take care of it.

They were there, and taking care of it, then the dog was shot. The dog suddenly became aggresive enough to shoot after staring at it for 5 minutes?

At least officer Waskiewicz got it right.

Quote:
Waskiewicz received a call months ago about a "vicious" dog in South Baltimore. When the officer arrived at the scene, he saw kids chasing the dog and throwing glass bottles at the pit bull. Waskiewicz called the dog over and reported the dog sat next to him and began licking him. The officer transported the pit bull to the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter. After three days of no claim on the dog, Waskiewicz returned to the shelter and adopted the homeless pit bull naming him Bo.
