Employee fired after stopping armed robbery

Quote:
When the “fake beard bandit," a repeat offender who has struck more than 30 stores in the area, recently entered the store with a gun in hand, McClean took it upon himself to stop the robbery. McClean darted out the door grabbed his gun, reentered the store and confronted the bandit. He was fired two days later.
Quote:
An Autozone representative told a local news channel that the company has a zero tolerance policy for employees bringing weapons into their stores.

This isn't the first time an employee has been fired for intervening in a robbery. In 2011, four Walmart employees were terminated after they disarmed and subdued a gun-toting assailant. Walmart policy directs employees to "disengage" and "withdraw" when a weapon is drawn.

####ing liberal dirtbags. Not one mention of him being an Air Force veteran. Article is written in a way that makes it seem like he is just some 23 year old vigilante with a gun, not a trained soldier using his 2nd amendment right and the skills he learned in training to stop a robbery.

Much better article without the huff post liberal twist.

I have mixed feelings about this, as I"m glad he did what he did BUT

They have policies and their employee should follow those policies, BUT they should have done more to provide security considering the circumstances. IMO, this could have been handled internally without all the fanfare. Now it's an open invitation

Regarding who he is and what his training might be - it's a company policy. Even soldiers have regulations that they must follow

Keep in mind, he did follow those policies, which is why he had to go out to his truck to retrieve the weapon he used to remove the threat to his fellow employees lives. As I noted in my thread about this, I'm done with autozone until this is rectified. .

From what I've read, the company policy is that no employee should bring a weapon into the store. If that is true, technically you are incorrect.

The fact that he got his gun from his vehicle makes it different in my eyes, but I'm not his employer

We'll see what happens now that it's all over the net

Mine too, it's that whole thing about zero tolerance. There are places for zero tolerance, pedophilia, for instance, but in almost all other aspects of life, things require judgement, and zero tolerance policies are a shield for those who wont or cant stand for something, and that I cannot abide.

If all that evil requires to triumph is for good men (and women, we can suppose) to do nothing, then when a good person steps up and does something to stop evil, we as a society should applaud that, not punish it. And if the damned lawyers make the impossible, what should change is the law that allows such legal shenanigans, not mans good nature.
