Mom threatens bullies with gun

A Denver mother has been arrested after threatening her daughter’s middle school bullies with a gun.

Police say Monica Avila, 34, confronted several students in the parking lot of Lake Middle School whom she believed were bullying her daughter. During an argument with the minors, she reportedly pulled out a semi-automatic handgun and told the students, “Look what I have.”

What if she had threatened them with a knife? After all the switchblade used to be the weapon du jour, so would it then be knife culture? Should all knives be banned?

She is prime example on why we need better screening to be ale to get guns. I think before you are allowed to get a gun you should have to a class or something.

Well she didn't, she used a handgun. Lets try to focus.

There are no excuses or justifications for threatening children with a gun. Making false analogies in defense of these people does nothing but hurt the 2ndA cause.
Any responsible gun owner knows what this lady did was wrong and that she should go to prison for her actions (if the story is being represented accurately).

I'll wait until we find out exactly how the children were bullying her child before I decide if her threats were extreme. Most likely the gun was not loaded and it was a bit of a bluster. But still they are not toys or props and should be taken care of properly. Jail? No, but I would probably take back her permit for a year.

I don't believe in harming children but I also do not believe in letting children harm one another. Of course these were preteens/teens which can be very nasty to one another.

Personally I've never needed a weapon to reduce a bully to tears and wet pants, but not everyone is as gifted in that department.

Wow, just wow. There is no justification for pointing a gun at children. None. No amount of bullying, not leaving he gun unloaded, nothing. Any responsible gun owner should know that. She should go to prison.

As long as the same is done for voting, oh and before you can publish any words for public review.

I would have used a baseball bat! No excuse for bullying, and to confront them is the right thing to do..IF they are bullying. I have always hated bullies, even when I was in middle school, and high school, I had to deal with them... It just isn't right for bullies to get away with their "stuff"! If it escalates, then so be it, then call the cops!
